confusion over PCI

i have an confusion over PCI Express 3.0 i m building a gaming pc and searched for MSI AMD/ATI R7 265 2GD5 OC 2GB Graphics Card , it says it requires PCI express 3.0 ,, is that PCI 1 16

3.0 is the specification for throughput and clock timings, the x16 is the number of lanes and physical size of the slot. Two different things. Just make sure your board handles PCI Express 3.0 and it will run at full speed, but the standards are fully backwards compatible, just put it in the slot that fits, almost any brand new board will work.

On Asus's site for the board, under the gallery, the answer is no. The silkscreen says it's PCI-e 2.0 The card will run at 2.0 speeds.
