Question Confusion with cables on a high Hz monitor

I’ve been looking all around the Internet for a definite asnwer to this, but I keep getting confused, and some people say different things.

Can a DisplayPort v1.4 be able to get me 165FPS if my screen is 240Hz and I have a setup that can do it? Or is it limited to 120Hz on a DP v1.4?
Is a HDMI 2.1 a better choice? I do not have G-Sync/compatible monitor (I know G-Sync requires DP).

I have a BenQ ZOWIE XL2546 240Hz gaming monitor, an overclocked GTX 1080 Ti and an overclocked i7-8700K. I am able to output 165FPS on the games I play.

What are my go-to choice of cable to be able to get 165FPS on the screen?

Either Hdmi or Displayport, both can achieve 240Hz. Displayport can handle higher refresh rates in higher resolutions though (ie 1440p 165Hz) but for this monitor, either is fine.
