Conncting home theater to tv

I have a sony DAV HDX500 home theater and I want to connect it to my Samsung UN55B8000XF tv so that when watching tv the sound comes from the home theater speakers. So my question is how do I do this? I have an optical audio cable and HDMI cable between the tv and home theater.

Had a look at your hifi and tv specs. Your tv should have optical out and your hifi optical in. So id assume use optical cable.

Switch your hifi over to use optical, be like along the lines of source or function button.

Your TV might send audio over optical automatically. If not go through the TV audio settings and enable external speaker.
