Connecting 2 monitors using 2 dvi ports

So I have a R7 265x graphics card (amd athlon x4 860k) and i'm trying to connect 2 monitors through the 2 dvi ports on my gpu. The dvi-i port works but the dvi-d port will not recognize my monitor. I'm using two dvi-vga adapters that hook in the ports but the dvi-d just wont recognize my monitor. I'm running windows 8 if that helps

dvi-d is digital signals only.
vga is analog signals only.

btw - dvi-i is digital and analog signals which is why your other monitor does work.
