After some googling, I have half of the answer I'm looking for. I get that one end of the cable connects to the motherboard via SAS connector and the other end connects to the U.2. http://rog.asus.com/20322016/hands-on/easy-guide-to-ssds-sata-msata-m-2-and-u-2/ But do you have to supply power via a SATA connector or is it already supplied via motherboard SAS connector?

Solution
you will need to supply power via a SATA power connector.

Actually the SAS connector connects to the drive and the square end to the motherboard.

Sorry, my bad. Thanks for the help. It'll be interesting to see if U.2 tanks, or if it will supplant M.2 NVME. I doubt it. People that care about how their rig looks won't be too enthused. On the other hand, you can cram more memory onto a 2.5", not to mention heat dissipation is better. Myself, I don't care about interior aesthetics for this particular build.(Fully enclosed Mini ITX).
