Connecting Laptops wirelessly without Wi-Fi/Bluetooth

Hi

I was wondering if there is a way of connecting Laptops wirelessly when there is no Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card available.

Are there other wireless technologies that could be available in Laptops?
Could you maybe use the Wi-Fi antennas in a different way to connect to other Laptops or even Routers? (like some older/outdated radio technology?)

I don't have a specific model in mind, just asking about Laptops in general.

Thanks

There are many USB Wifi and Bluetooth adapters available.

Why/what is the reason or meaning behind "there is no Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card available"?

Likewise why not use wired via an ad hoc network? How many laptops? What is the environment?

What is the end requirement?

It's just a theoretical question.

I recently replaced a Wi-Fi card and got curious while replacing it if there are other ways to send/receive data wirelessly or establish connections if Wi-Fi cards or Wi-Fi USB adapters were not an option.

Could the Wi-Fi antenna somehow be used to transfer data without the card or does it just turn into a useless wire in that case?
