[SOLVED] Connecting surround sound installation to motherboard

My son has a computer with a motherboard MSI H310M PRO-VDH PLUS with an onboard Realtek ALC887 8 channel (7.1) with a 3.5 mm jack connection.

We also have a TRUST GXT658 TYTAN 5.1 surround installation. This has 2 RCA for Stereo and 3x2RCA for connecting the surround sound installation.

Currently the computer is connected to the stereo connection, but I want it to be connected to the surround

I could not find how I can convert the 3.5 mm jack connection of the computer to the 3x2RCA for the surround sound installation.

well it gets connected same way u have stereo connected by now
ull need 1x 3.5mm jack and 2x rca for each dual channel
6 channels (5.1) will mean 3 stereo cables

3.5mm gets connected to all 3 back side audio ports
in realtek manager u will then configure those ports for front/center-sub/rear channels

as for mic/line in-out, that will needs to be connected to pc fron panel (not enough back side ports)

I understand what you are saying, but I don't have 3x3.5 mm jack outputs on my computer, but only 1x3.5 mm jack. With the surround sound installation 3 cables are supplied 3.5mm Male to 2RCA Male.

The pictures of the model of motherboard you posted show 3 3.5mm jacks on the back.

The motherboard is correct. The indicated connections are:

Blue 3.5mm female jack: Line-in
Green 3.5mm female jack: Connection stereo speaker set
Pink 3.5mm female jack: Connection for a microphone

The connections below are not on the motherboard:

Orange 3.5mm female jack: Center / Subwoofer port
Black 3.5mm female jack: Behind speaker-Out
Gray 3.5 mm female jack: Side speaker-out

The motherboard has an 8-Channel (7.1) HD Audio with Audio Boost

hi, colors shouldnt matter at all
those soundcards can have any output/input u set it to have
for 7.1 channel u usualy connect 3 back side 3.5mm + 1 3.5mm from one of front ports (headphone jack)

anyway
front channel connect to green port
back channel connect to blue or pink
sub/center connect to which ever got free at this point

then open realtek audio manager, on right side u can see analog ports (similar to what u see on back side
click on each port to define what it will be, if front channel, sub/center or rear

Thanks for your advice. I have reconfigured the audio outputs of the MSI motherboard with the realtek HD sound manager software to connect a 5.1 audio installation. I had to use the included MSI motherboard CD for these Realtek drivers / software, but the 5.1 audio installation now works perfectly. My son is completely happy!
