Hello I'm currently looking into building a pc and I think I've got it down but I was looking into connecting to the wifi but was wondering if motherboards have on board wifi or will I need to buy an wireless adapter

The vast majority of desktop motherboards do not have WiFi built in.

Unless it's specifically listed in the specifications, you'll need to purchase an adapter (or preferably use Ethernet).
