if i let my desktop sit idle, maybe 15 minutes, the internet connection stops working and i have to reset my computer for it to work again.

few facts. its cable internet. windows 7 pc. i'm running an ethernet cord from my router to the pc. the internet signal isn't the issue since i can access the internet wirelessly with a laptop when the problem pops up on my desktop. when the issue does pop up i cant access the router settings from my desktop. disabling and re-enabling the modem/port doesn't seem to fix the issue, and neither did updating the drivers.

edit:

so i've narrowed the issue down and i've just gotten more confused. at about 10:30 every night i can't load web pages or apparently access my router menu, but a youtube video i'm watching at the same time continues to buffer. i'm still watching the same video at 11pm and without resetting my pc or anything like that i can load web pages again.

If updating the network drivers doesn’t solve the issue, follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type adapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

2. Right-click the connection, and then click Properties. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Click the Networking tab, and then click Configure.

4. Click the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.

i've actually done that and still had the issue.

just my pc, at least i'm pretty sure. the laptop in the house that runs off the wifi from the router (like i said above my desktop is wired to the router) seemed to load pages just fine.
