I recently replaced my existing cable modem. The one I have is a Motorola surfboard model SB6121. The new one is a Motorola MB8611.

I called comcast to give them the MAC address for the new one. And they added it to my account.

I got connectivity then, but all the roku channels that I tried to sign in (hbomax, netflix, prime, etc) wouldn’t connect. They said they couldn’t recognize my account. I also had weird connectivity with ipads and smartphones.

I don’t remember similar problems when I add the SB6121, but that was about 8 years ago.

Any idea what might be going on?

Thanks

The main thing that likely changed was the public IP you are using.

Does anything work normally or do you have issues with even simple web surfing.

The modem only does 1 function, it translates between the docsis used on the coax to ethernet. It is completely transparent to things like your router. Unless you happen to know the special modem ip address ..ie 192.168.100.1..you would not know it exists.

The only things I can think of is the device thinks this is a new connection coming from a different location. I don't know about a roku but things like PC web pages complain all the time when my IP changes because of the VPN and they want to send me a text message to confirm.

Would I get a new ip from comcast when I replaced the cable modem?

I use a vpn on my devices, but that shouldn't affect the roku box, should it? That's hardwired to the router.

Thanks for your replies!

I got a different cable modem, and comcast added it to my account. Worked fine. Either the first cable modem was bad, or comcast messed up.
