[SOLVED] Considering an upgrade, but "overwhelmed" by all the options!

So... I bought by current computer in 2012, but did a partial upgrade about 2 years ago, changing my GPU from a Radeon HD7950 to a GTX 1060 6GB, and replacing my PSU with one that has both more power and better quality.

Now, I am considering another partial upgrade of my CPU+MoBo+RAM. After reading around I am seriously considering upgrading my monitor as well after reading all the love for 144 Hz and 1440p. However, I am feeling "overwhelmed" by all the options and I'm struggling to figure out how far I should take an upgrade. I am currently running on a 1080p 60 Hz monitor (as can be seen by my current system below). This is fine and I have no problem enjoying myself at this resolution and refresh rate, but I am really curious if the difference between my current monitor and one with 1440p and/or 144 Hz is as vast at some make it out to be?

This is my first post, so I hope I am not asking too much or too wide/many of a question. But I am wondering whether an upgrade to a 1440p 144Hz monitor would be worth it for a casual gamer like myself that enjoy great graphics, but don't play competitive games? Or might an upgrade to either 1440p 60 Hz or 1080p 144 Hz be just as good? Would I be able to enjoy games on high graphic settings with my current GPU with any such monitor or should a potential monitor upgrade come with a future GPU upgrade?

I might also upgrade my GPU again in the not too distant future (~a year), but will probably stick with it for now. So what CPU should I get that would set me up to avoid discernible bottlenecks upon a GPU upgrade?

Budget is flexible, and will be adjusted depending on any feedback on this forum. CPU wise I could go as high as a i7 9700k. Future GPU upgrade budget would probably be in the price range of a 2070, but could possibly stretch it a bit.

Do you live near a store such as Microcenter? If so I'd check out the monitor upgrades then make your choice based on that. If your not super competitive and considering your looking at the 9700K/2070 I may suggest a 3440x1440P/100hz/VA or IPS monitor. You'll still have a high refresh rate and much better color over a TN panel but way more screen for multitasking or gaming with much more immersion.

Not sure what your budget is but this would be a massive upgrade and would work with your other parts (get the AM4 bracket for your 212 EVO).

The LG-29WK600-W has a 75hz refresh rate, typo on PCPer.

Thank you so much for the replies. Especially WildCard for taking the time to write all that out. Definitely feel like I learned a lot from this.

I am not necessarily in a major hurry, so waiting on ryzen 3000 could be an idea. Does anyone know when it launches and how much of an improvement to the current generation it would be?

May 2019 for the Ryzen 9's and probably June/July for the rest of the Ryzen 3000 CPU's. You could get a 2600 for like $150 as a placeholder CPU until there released. I'm looking at the 3700X or better to replace my 2600 but we have no idea what the performance increase will be until reviewed but with the higher boost clocks I'm expecting a decent improvement.

The 8 core ryzen 3rd gen went head to head with an overclocked 9900k using 30% less power....

Definitely go with the new mobo aka X570. Pcie 4.0 support.
