Hello just wondering if anyone can help at all. I've been getting constant blue screen crashes recently while playing games and using some software. Annoyingly these blue screens aren't giving me and mini dump files but there seems to be 2 errors which are:
Unexpected Store Exception and Critical Process Died. However I can't see the error codes for either as it flashes off too quickly.
I've tried multiple troubleshooting steps like -
SFC /scannow (No issues)
chkdsk /r (No issues)
Resetting CMOS
Trying new RAM
All drivers up to date
Windows up to date
Full security check (Clean)

I'm really not sure what else to do or if anyone has any ideas on what I could try next. Could it be a motherboard issue as I also have trouble with one of my drives sometimes getting an error and not being accessible for some reason but also haven't figured out why that is either.

My PC Specs are -
Ryzen 7 5800x
RTX 2070 Super
ASUS ROG B550-f Wifi
32gb Corsair 3200mhz RAM
Corsair RM750x PSU
I've got 5 drives in my computer
Samsung 970 Evo m.2 500gb - Boot
Samsung 980 Pro m.2 2TB - Files (This is the one that has the drive not accessible issue)
500gb SSD - Files
2TB SSD - Files
2TB HDD - Files

Thanks
Tom

No dump files could mean its the drives - I assume you haven't changed size or location of page file.

try running magician on your both Samsung nvme, should be able to check diagnostics
are you using the samsung nvme drivers? on same link

those 2 errors could mean cause is the nvme drive itself
Unexpected Store Exception - store used by cpu to track locations of files in virtual memory. Actual file locations on page file (c drive) or memory
Critical process died is more general windows error. Can be boot files, or logon files, or system files.

ah okay so could be the boot drive causing issues? Ive replaced the 980 pro already as thought it couldve been faulty but its doing the same thing so thinking its possibly the 970 evo boot driving causing the issue? Might try swap the 980 pro into the top slot on the mobo and install windows on that instead.
The 970 evo doesn't let me do a diagnostic scan in magician unfortunately.

can you right click start
choose disk management from list
open next window so you can see top/bottom part
take a screenshot and upload to an image sharing website and show link here.

Just want to see what it looks like.

Samsung 970 Evo m.2 500gb - Boot
Samsung 980 Pro m.2 2TB - Files (This is the one that has the drive not accessible issue)
so 970 wouldn't run scan and 980 has problems? no point trying to install onto it. Drives that randomly disappear are questionable in my eyes, I woudln't use them as a boot drive.

If i were to install on any I would pick another like the 500 ssd, just to see if you still have same issues.

Do you have newest BIOS on motherboard?
its not that your sata drives are blocking m.2 slots, if anything it works other way and you don't have enough sata drives for that to be an issue. m.2_2 blocks sata ports 5/6

970 just says diagnostic scan isnt available for that drive. 980 pro has the issue but ive had it on 2 different drives now so thinking it could be a motherboard issue rather than a drive issue?
BIOS was updated recently but ill double check just incase there's a new version.

Samsung 970 Evo m.2 500gb - Boot
Samsung 980 Pro m.2 2TB - Files (This is the one that has the drive not accessible issue)
500gb SSD - Files
2TB SSD - Files

so are the nvme disks 3 & 4? and its put the sata drives as disks 0,1 & 2

I see the 500gb ssd used to be windows , was that on this PC or another?

it would appear it is the motherboard m.2 slots if its on 2 different drives now. I would contact Asus and see what they suggest.

there aren't any tests for motherboards, and specifically m.2 slots that I know of... software anyway. Sounds dangerous to health of any drives to test it on them.

I would rma the 980 as well, and get a replacement as no point having a drive that just vanishes. Disappearing drives can't be entirely blamed on MB as I seen enough drives just stop. It can be a physical problem with the memory controller or some other part of nvme. Samsung drives are normally bullet proof but every once in a while I see cases like this that remind me they aren't perfect.

oddly i am helping 2 people whose 2nd m.2 slot randomly stopped working but you on different OS and different CPU makers. Both today. I don't like those odds as I rarely see it.

You might want to try replacing/resetting CMOS battery, could be its at fault.

Disk 0 and 4 are the m.2 drives. Well the only reason i think its not the drive at fault is that ive already RMA the 980 pro for having the same issue so not sure it is that!
The drive not accesible issue has been happening a lot less recently its more the BSODs which are the big issue! Going to try a fresh windows install this weekend and see if I have any luck but if not I think ill try RMA the motherboard and go from there.
Im running a custom water loop and have tried overclocking CPU and GPU. GPU was mostly fine but CPU had issues which could be the CPU but guessing also the motherboard could be the issue so we'll see!

So C drive is an ssd? I assumed you were booting off the nvme drives
as its booting off drive 3 - the EFI partition is the boot partition and C is on that drive.

its why I thought it was the nvme. In my X570 board, the sata drives are ahead of pcie, so I thought it might be the same.
if its the ssd, what make/model as I was looking in the wrong place.

when you installed, did you have all the other drives attached? did you mean to install onto ssd?
I can tell drive 0 used to have windows on it.

Sorry ignore that the m.2s are drive 3 and 4!

Right, well... ignore that last post then :)

it is likely motherboard. the top slot on board is controlled by CPU, 2nd by chips on board. So if it was CPU, your top slot would be the one most likely to not work now.

so slot only sometimes doesn't work? You could try replacing CMOS battery and see if that fixes it. Possible its just losing settings sometimes. Cheap fix too.

yeah think ill try CMOS and then go from there!
Motherboards only a year old so should be able to get a replacement easily enough.

it was a thought, I wouldn't think hdd use that much power.

I was just looking for possible choices but its not like a 2070 Super uses that much power so should be fine. I have same GPU and calculated my power to only be about 400watts so you should be below that still. I only have 2 drives but still.

ive just had my new motherboard turn up. Ive got an 850w power supply i might chuck in too and see how it goes.
