Hi everyone, I'm currently running Windows 7 and since yesterday morning every time I start up Windows I get the message Windows did not start up or couldn't start up and the choices I have are Launch Repairs (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally.

Well the first time I saw this I launched Repairs and it seemed like it found something wrong but after trying to repair it it said it couldn't fix it. Then I restarted my computer and I got it again. This time I just chose Start Windows Normally and it works fine, it actually just started normally.

Now every time I start up my computer I keep getting that error where Windows didn't load/start up but as long as I click on Start Windows Normally everything works fine.

Obviously this is not a good thing and I couldn't find anything online, all I found are people having problems with their computer shutting down which mine isn't, everything works fine and shutting it down is giving me no problems only the fact when I start up windows.

Thank you for anyone that reads this and tries to help me out cause last time I ask for help with another situation I didn't get any.

did you install a program that caused this to happen? What do you feel was the cause...? beause if you did absolutely nothing to cause it (u didn't install anything or any driver or connect anything to the computer that will force a driver load) then your drive may have bad sectors or is going bad

run a chkdsk at boot - in windows open the run prompt and type - chkdsk c: /r
then Y to start at next boot... and reboot

Ok so I did the chkdsk at startup. I'm just going to try to list everything that happens to give you guys information

When I restarted my computer I still got the prompt of windows not loading so I clicked on start normally, after that the chkdsk ran. Took a little while, only thing it found was "Windows replaced bad clusters in file 10402 of name \hiberfil.sys

Other than that nothing else was found, after chkdsk ran it restarted my computer and still got the prompt to repair or start normally in which i chose start normally again.

Also want to mention is that the only thing I did to my computer before it happened was plug in a Microsoft wired controller and it searched for drivers and installed them correctly.

Another thing I did was update my Anti Malwarebytes cause I haven't in a while, after I updated it I noticed my Microsoft Security Essentials couldn't update and I couldn't go to my Windows Update section on my computer. After that I searched online and uninstalled Malwarebytes and someone on the microsoft help forums suggested to right click my system32 folder and uncheck read only under properties and when I did that my Microsoft Security Essentials could update and I was able to go my Windows Update screen perfectly fine.

Hopefully this information can help you help me, Thank you again.

I'm sorry to sound uneducated but how do you do that? I'm fairly new to computer world but I do want to learn

Hi :)

You don't have to now...that phrase WINDOWS REPLACED BAD CLUSTERS means your hard drive is failing BADLY...

Its save your info, fit NEW hard drive and drop old one in bin time...

All the best Brett :)

So there's nothing else I can do other than getting a new hard drive?

Hi :)

Sorry but no..bad clusters mean a physically failing hd... nothing else and its NOT repairable...

People in my shops ask me how LONG a failing drive will last.... my quote to them is >>> MAYBE 6 months, MAYBE 6 MINUTES !

All the best Brett :)
