Contents of word file disappeared

I was trying to copy and paste a word document to my Gmail when the contents of the file disappared
 

This usually happens when you select the text to copy it, then accidentally type a key. The keystroke replaces the selected text.

If the file is still open in Word, you might be able to recovery it with an Undo (ctrl-z). But if you've closed Word or tried other commands in it, the original text is likely gone.
