I have some goofy object in control panel. Icon look like the picture of
the ace of diamonds.
I've had this for a while. I'm pretty sure it got installed via a web page
(back when I was still using Norton AV).

My question is how to get rid of it.

If is NOT a .cpl file.

I've look here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls
Folder\

and well as the corresponding current_user entries. I've look for a
corresponding namespace entry.

I just don't see it. Where else can I look to get rid of this?

BTW - it looks like this: http://www.dalesplace.net/ctl_panel.jpg

Thanks,

Dale,

Have you checked under the Namespace key (under HKLM as well)?

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace

One of the sub-keys (in GUID form) may be the culprit, which needs to be identified on a trial-and-error basis by deleting each GUID one at a time.

**Always backup the registry key before modifying**

Ramesh,

Appreciate the suggestion. Yes, I've checked these also - not hiding there
:~)

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

I did find a piece of this - running sysinternals regmon & clicking the
object:

28 5.26764379 Explorer.EXE:2516 QueryValue
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\Flags\nethard.cpl",Äij»²¨
[³ÝÇϵå]µµ¿ì¹Ì Á¦°Å NOTFOUND

I searched again - and did find nethard.cpl I'm not sure how I missed it in
my earlier search :~\
