Convert win 7 from HDD to SSD?

Hey, my set of computer parts comes with a 2 TB HDD (idk the model 🙁 ) and it also comes with Windows 7. I was wondering if there is any way to "transplant" the OS from the HDD (I assume it comes pre-installed) into the SSD? I want to know because of 2 things:
1. newegg sale on the Crucial M4.
2. Don't want to wait 'til Win 8 to get an SSD with OS.

Buy the version of the M4 that comes with the transfer kit...

Clean install of windows 7 onto the SSD with no other hdd attached is the way to proceed.

sephmeister - The 256 gig m4 that is on sale (Ends todate) does not come with a transfer kit.

While I agree with Area51 that a Clean install is best when going from a HDD -> SSD, You could try EasyUS which does a good job transfering the OS from a HDD->SSD.

Home edition is free at bottom of list: http://www.easeus.com/download.htm

BEFORE transfering from HDD-> SSD verify that the Windows 7 was installed with the HDD set to AHCI. If it was installed under IDE you will need to COVERT it to AHCI FIRST!!!

You can let microsoft fix it, or manually do it. The heading is what hapens if you change bios to ahci (if was set to IDE) and try to boot WITHOUT first modifing the registry.

REPEAT: Clean install is always best option. (1) disconnect HDD before installing win 7 on SSD and (2) verify Bios set to AHCI!!

would you recommend buying the M4 right now and doing the transfer, or should I wait until the release of Win 8 and just do a clean install on it?
I am trying to weigh the price of it versus the need that I have, I will mostly be playing games and I hate the long 2 minute boot that my computer has right now 🙁

I'd go ahead and buy the m4
Have 3 of them (2 128gigs and one 256 gig) also have Three Samsung 830.
Both are great SSDs. And while the price may drop more as time goes on, $180 has been the lowest I've seen the 256 gig m4 todate.

As to windows 8, Personnally I' wait at least 3 -> 4 monthes after release and check the reviews before jumping on the Band wagon.
There are a few that have tried the bata release and love it - BUT there are also alot with reservations.

My own take is that it is great if you want the look and feel of an ipad on a desktop or laptop. Probably great for someone that just emails, surfs the net and is a social user.
I tried it for two days, deleted it and thru my DVD in the trash. I do not think the corporate world is going to adapt for laptops/desktops. It's great for Tablets. BUT this is Just my take.
