I have an adapter that is VGA to DVI-I. I was wondering if it would damage my video card if I removed the 4 pins around the flat part of my the DVI-I to convert it to DVI-D?

I cannot find much online to the forums about anyone doing so let alone the wiring to see what would happen. But I believe those 4 pins are just ground pins.

Has anyone tried this?

Solution
That wont work. the Reason DVI-I to vga works is because DVI-I carries an analog signal. DVI-D does not carry an analog signal so it requires an active converter to convert the DVI-D's digital signal into the VGA's analog signal. Those 4 pins you think are ground are actually part of the analog signal.

Im not sure what your end goal here but it is not going to work how you want.

At your video card the DVI is Female so removing the pins is pointless. Just becasue you take out the 4 pins does not magically make it DVI-D capable.

At the adapter if you take off the 4 pins then it now VGA-to-NOTHING converter.

Thank you, that was all what my mind wanted to know for curiosity sake. And your diagram was great too. Thank you once again.
