Cooler / Case Fan Advice

Hi all - first thread here despite lurking for several years.

Over the last year I have been gradually updating my rig, whilst not being able to afford to update my mobo/cpu/mem.

Previous rig was an E7300 OC'd to 3.6, on a P5QL-Pro with 4gb which ran Vista 64 beautifully for 4 years.

The bits I updated were:

Fractal R4 Design Titanium Case (from a godawful noisy house that I regretted buying instantly)
A SanDisk Ultra 128gb SSD
1TB Samsung HDD (In addition to a very old 500gb HDD)
Radeon HD 6850 (from a 4870? Can't quite remember)

Basically just keeping it viable without ever blowing the bank.

This Christmas I was lucky enough to be gifted the funds to finally update the guts. Which I have duly done! Very exciting shopping spree it was too!

Apart from the above I am now running:

Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H
4670K
8Gb G Skill 2133 (C11 - wasn't my first choice but it was super cheap on offer)
Windows 7

So to my questions.

You may have noticed I missed a cooler on the above list. I am looking to overclock this as hard as I reasonably can. Having dropped VCore to find my base I think I have a reasonable chip. It seems to pass muster at 1.08v. Not the best but it bodes ok.

I have been looking at the Noctua NH-14 but it is right on my price limit. Would it unlock much more than the Hyper Evo 212 which is half price?

Last question - case related. I currently have my fans set up with a pull into the front, an exhaust to the rear and to the top. All fans are Fractal Design 140mms. Is this ok or should I consider chopping it around?

Hope I haven't missed anything. Any advice would be much appreciated 😉

the air flow will be good but there is no psu on the list and you will need one that work with the aswell 4670 and made for them .

Hi scout. I neglected to mention it - I am running an Antec 650 Earthwatts PSU.

it is on the list so that should work did you ever had issue with the old system for the power on the gpu with it .

No never. It's been rock solid. Allows GPU OC without blinking.

Fractal Design makes some decent case fans. You should be able to stick with them without issue.

The Noctua NH-D14 is the creme de la creme of the air coolers, along with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE, Thermalright Silver Arrow, and Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2. Their performance is a noticeable step beyond the Hyper 212 EVO, and not only will they do a better job, they'll do it more quietly.

That's a nice re-assurance. I bit the bullet and ordered the Noctua today. I am really looking forward to seeing what I can get out of my new gear. I was considering buying the windowed side panel for the R4 so I can look at it all

I'll no doubt need some help with my overclock so expect a new thread in the near future! Thanks for your replies.
