Hello, I am drawn between water and air cooler for the 8700K. In practice, which is the quietest and offers the best cooling and without blocking the GPU and RAM? I plan to use 3200C14 RAM so maybe this means I need to OC to reach this speed?

How is the cryorig compared with the Noctua NH-D15? I think the Noctua NH-D15S does not block the RAM?

As for Corsair H110i v2 or Kraken X62, which is better?

My computer case is Be Quiet Dark Base 900.

That dark base 900 would damp 50% of the sound coming from the case. U even got clearance for push pull with the X62 and it has the needed fan headers to control the all the four fans. Which means you can run them slower with even less noise and also add rgb-ness to ur rad with rgb fans.

No no, a push pull effectively increases the static pressure so that to speak of, so more efficient cooling is what I wanted to point out. So running it at a slower speed in push pull = running maybe 300-500rpm more in push or pull mode. Makes sense maybe?

The R1 universal is what to get if your going to overclock the processor some.
If you rather get water then get water no biggie to me. I have had water and will not use it again.
One drawback of water besides the rare instance of a leak, is if the pump goes out your PC is 100% down till it's replaced.
If a fan goes out on a air cooler you can pop a case fan on it and keep going or in the case of a cooler with 2 fans just keep going and order a new fan.

How is the R1 Universal compared with the Noctua NH-D15S (D15 blocks the RAM) in terms of noise level and ability to cool the 8700K? Availability and pricing are different but I hope to get the better one.

close enough

the fact that the R1 fits tall ram is the clincher in its favor

not everyone likes the looks of the noctua

Thanks. It is nice that they have some accessories. I will certainly buy the cover.

I read that the fan of the NH-D15S has some high pitch sound but the NH-D15 does not have this issue since it uses different fans. However, from Amazon, it looks like NH-D15 uses the same fan as the D15S. Does the black&brown fan has the pitch issue? Is it compatible with the white cover you linked?

The D15 is a 2 fan cooler and the D15S is a single fan cooler.

The cover is compatible for the entire D15 range.

I don't think noctua would have high pitched sound coming from it. If so, I think you are eligible for a replacement as per the company's policy.

All the D15 range of coolers use the same fans. The chromax fans the same SSO2 fans with a different paint job.

Thanks. Do you think the fan that came with the D15S is good enough? It came with a NF-A15 PWM premium fan. Is it better to replace this 1-fan with one of those two you mentioned? They seem to be the same but different colors

I use the i7-8700K.
