For example.

10 years ago, cellphones were not adequate replacements for audio players, so you had markets flooded with good enough for earbud and portable headphones.

Now most people's needs are satisfied with their cellphones, and dedicated audio players went after the high end market.

The specific one I linked is capable of driving the most demanding headphones you can buy to an acceptable extent.

If you want a good audio player and aren't going to demand your electrostatic full cans work with it, FiiO makes great players, and anything that rockbox can be installed on is generally really good too.
 


You're confusing analog with linear. Linear power supplies are the things of the past that were highly inefficient, had extremely low power factor and even worse input harmonic distortion, to name a few of the drawbacks. Modern PSUs are often referred to as SMPSs, Switched-Mode Power Supplies, because they are not linear and operate by using high-frequency switching and inductors to change voltages around much more efficiently.
 


Linear power supplies are still used in a lot of smaller devices, though, just not computers.
