I have a 128GB Micro SD card in exFat32 format. I have tried to copy my music libray over to the card for use in my Galaxy S5. My music library is 103GB. I can't seem to copy more than about 5-10GB before it craps out and gives my errors about corrupt data or the disk being dirty. I have reformatted and ran chdsk numerous times. I have tried to copy from PC to the card via USB, tried copying from PC to card using card reader slot, tried syncing over wifi; all methods netted the same result. I even purchased a new card ansd still have the same issue. I even used 2 different laptops...again, all methods netted the same result. Can anyone help me?

Hey there, mmoss57003!

This is because the exFAT/FAT32 file system format has limitations in terms of file size it can contain. The maximum size of any data you load to the storage formatted in exFAT/FAT32 can be up to 4 GB.
The way I see it you have two options here: You'd either need to re-format the SD Card in NTFS, or you should split the data in files less than 4 GB in size in order to be able to transfer it flawlessly.

Keep me posted! Hope this helps you! :)

I am not transferring any single file larger than 6-8MB. I have tried to copy the entire folder which contains my library and I have tried copying a little at a time. It always craps out after about 3500-4000 tracks copied.

Can you please open Disk Management and check how the SD card appears there?
I'd suggest you to take a look at this thread and try to use some third-party tool that might help you:

However, it seems like the SD card is damaged, thus I'm not sure if you will be able to do that. What about the new SD Card? Does it work or is it failing to transfer the files as well?
Another thing you can try is to uninstall the Card Reader drivers from Device Manager and re-install them after the reboot of the system. Research your laptop manufacturer's website for any driver updates for your model or use the drivers set CD/DVD that came with it, to re-install them.

Let me know! :)

Thanks...I am not currently at my computer, but I will check disk management later.

And the new sd card produced the same results on both laptops. I tend to believe it is not the laptop, because I get the same result if I try to sync from wifi. I think it is the exFat32 format, but I could be wrong.

You are right that the root of the issue might be the file system itself. Once you go to Disk Management, you can reformat the SD cards from there as well. Use a different file system like NTFS and see if that will fix the issue.

Let me know as soon as you do that! :)

In disk management, it shows capacity of 125GB, says it's active and healthy. I have reformatted to NTSF and that works fine but my Galaxy S5 does not recognize the NTSF format. When the card is inserted into my phone (in exFat32 format), it too shows 125GB capacity. very frustrating...

It definitely seems frustrating! 🙁 Well, I'd suggest you to check for any available apps that might be able to read from NTFS-formatted SD cards at least. Hopefully this will make it work.

Good luck! :)
