Copy permission denied

I have an iMac running Parallels with Windows 7 as my VM. My XP machine had a WD Essentials as a backup external drive. I can open and use the files on my VM and iMac, but it will not let me copy a file from Win7 to the external drive. Properties/Security for the WD drive only lists the file sharing option, not the option to assign permissions. Where is my problem?

The format type must not be ntfs(win) or hsf+ (mac). Its probably Fat32 and not journalled so it makes sense those options aren't there. How are the file permissions set on the win7 side? What error message are you getting?

The file system on the external drive is NTFS.

The particular folder I want to copy in Win7 is a read-only file.

can you copy it to the same folder its in? If you can that copy should not be read only.

You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file. _localhost_C$ Type: File. This was after the file was completely copied. It also copied as read-only.
