copying files as "SYSTEM" administrator

i was trying to copy a folder that was in my C drive. midway into copying i get the message saying that i don't permission to change these file from the administrator "SYSTEM".

is there a way to grant me access and copy these files?

the error you are getting leads me to believe you are not just moving "user" files but are trying to also trying to move "system" files that are used in and for the OS. What exactly are you trying to do?

If you are trying to copy a drive to a different one there are free programs out there that we can recommend to you.

If the folder doesn't involve system files, then ....

a) Right click on Windows explorer exe file or icon and "run as administrator"

or

b) Use a free backup tool such as FBackup to "mirror" the folder somewhere else.

Then I would just use Fbackup which may not copy system files.

As was mentioned earlier, it matters very much exactly what are you backing up ?

If we are talking system files / registry, have you looked at System Restore ?

Again, w/o knowing "what folder" .....

FBackup may have issues with in use system files. I have never used it on a boot drive. It runs about a dozen times a day on mu SoHo network backing up data partitions, once a week on each box on other partitions.

Jack, He wants to back up an Old version of Windows. As an example: like when you upgrade to a new version of windows and it saves a copy of windows labeled as Windows.old to the C:/ drive for a backup. He wants to copy this to a different drive. I personally don't know of a program that will copy this but you might.
