When I try to send a copy of a WORD doc to the CD drive or
copy and paste the doc to the CD drive, I get the
message, "Windows encountered a problem in copying this
file Retry or cancel".
Anyone know why I get that message and what to do about
it??

Are you using XP's built in burning software or third party software? Is
this a recent problem or have you had it for awhile?

If you are using the XP copy system, as far as I know it will not allow
direct burning to a CD

Harry: I'm trying to use XP's built in burning software.
The PC came with Hero installed, but I later encountered
problems in using it. So, I deleted Hero and tried to use
XP's built in. The first time I tried it, I got the
message about windows encountering problems in copying the
file.

I think you mean Nero 🙂
It is probable that XP's built in burning software was disabled when Nero
was installed. Right click your CD Writer's icon in the My Computer window.
Select Properties->Recording Tab and check the box that says "Enable CD
writing on this device". You may need to reboot.

I'm having this exact same problem. I've done this, but it's still telling
me that I can't write to the disk. Oddly, I copied a bunch of stuff from
my other computer on this same CD to load onto this new computer, and while
those files copied onto the disk (and copied onto the new computer) just
fine, I can't seem to save a file from the new computer onto the CD-RW. I
enabled the "CD writing on this device" as you suggested, but got the same
error message. I checked that the disk didn't somehow become write-
protected in transition, and it's not.

Any suggestions?
