That GPU is not going to be much if any slower than a 750ti or a GT 1030. Just because it is newer doesn't mean its always faster. You can do any 5xx or 6xx series card, and I believe all 7xx series card except the 750ti as it is a maxwell based GPU. Your power supply has to be adequate for the job, regardless.

Your system is a dinosaur by today's standards. Hardware advances, and ancient tech is no longer supported. Costs are too high to support everything and anything, so there is going to be a cutoff, and at some point older hardware will lose said support. Modern GPU's are not compatible, period. You would need a 2nd gen i3/i5/i7, at minimum to support them, and even some of those systems didn't have the proper bios support either.
