Frankly it is time for a new rig, to be perfectly honest. It might not work due to legacy bios of core 2 systems. Maxwell and newer cards tend to require the newer UEFI style bios.

If you have a decent power supply, find a used GTX 560ti. It will work with your system, and performance would be similar, if not a bit faster, than a GTX 1030.

That GPU is not going to be much if any slower than a 750ti or a GT 1030. Just because it is newer doesn't mean its always faster. You can do any 5xx or 6xx series card, and I believe all 7xx series card except the 750ti as it is a maxwell based GPU. Your power supply has to be adequate for the job, regardless.

Your system is a dinosaur by today's standards. Hardware advances, and ancient tech is no longer supported. Costs are too high to support everything and anything, so there is going to be a cutoff, and at some point older hardware will lose said support. Modern GPU's are not compatible, period. You would need a 2nd gen i3/i5/i7, at minimum to support them, and even some of those systems didn't have the proper bios support either.

Some G41's don't have a UEFI bios. This an cause problems with some GT/GTX 10x0 cards. It's to do with the legacy BIOS from older systems not recognizing the newer GPU's.

what exact mobo do you have. What brand? Then we can be sure.
