I have a e8400 and am getting a GTX750 Ti SC soon and want to know if i should also get a q6600 and overclock it to 3.0. My board will not overclock past 3.0 since my fsb is limited to 333.Will i notice a gain in video rendering and video games?

Solution
that's debatable as the e8400 is one generation newer than the q6600, however the q6600 also has twice as many threads which is becoming increasingly impotent these days. you will likely see a slight decrease in single threaded performance but a near doubling in multie threaded performance. as such, older games may run a bit slower, but newer games should be faster and video editing and rendering software will be significantly faster.

Yep sure in rendering and games both you will notice performance gain as rendering can use more cores and also most games of today are optimized to use a quad core cpu so its a good upgrade if you dont want to change the motherboard. Try getting q9000 series though. They are much better and they would be almost as cheap as q6600 .

hope this helped.

^^ Agreed. I went from a E4600 @ 3.0 to a Q6600 @3.0 and didn't see as much of a difference. When i then went to a Q9550 (2.83 stock) and Oced it to 3.5 I saw a HUGE gain between the two Quad Cores and not a whole lot between the 4600 and the 6600. I picked mine up off of ebay for less than a 100 bucks a year ago.

Also the main gain i saw was Gaming and 3D Rendering. Every day task email, web, word, ect not so much.
