I have a samsung magic station dm v60 with 4gbs of ram and gt710. it has a lga 775 socket and i would like to try if i can upgrade my cpu from core 2 duo to quad? Do you guys think it will work?

Most likely it won’t. It came with a first gen Conroe CPU. The Core 2 Quad did not come out until later.

If any do work. It would be a first generation Core 2 Quad. Like the Q6400 or Q6600.

It would really depend on what Northbridge the Motherboard used and if Samsung updated the BIOS with support for those models. I suppose you could always try to modify the BIOS to support those models. At risk of ruining the BIOS.

As I recall. Newer 45nm models will never work in older motherboards. Just the first gen 65nm models I listed.

As stated, just because the chip uses the same socket and works with the same chipset in no way means that the OEM made its BIOS compatible with it.

What you have is a high risk low reward situation here.
High risk of damaging your system, high risk of it not working, low gains. The core2quad was a good upgrade 10 years ago, at this point you are just going from 12% the performance of a budget kaby lake laptop to maybe 16%.
Not to mention that if the application is not multi-threaded then those extra 2 cores are not going to be utilized much any way.

Then what cpu should I use? I have phoenix 6.0 bios

There is no details I can find on what CPU that model supports. As one option was a Core 2 Duo E6300. A Core 2 Duo E6700 will likely work fine, as it is the same generation. I couldn't say the same for any models released after the E6300.

What if I try core 2 e8600? Will it work?

I doubt it. That computer came with a first generation Conroe CPU as an option. The e6300.

That computer was released in 2006. None of the Conroe models released after July 2006 are likely to work. Nor any later models. Unless Samsung later added more CPU to the support list via BIOS update (doubtful).

The only ones I would say have a high probability of working are the E6300, E6400, E6600 and E6700. All that are officially supported in the manual are the E6300 and E6400. Since the E6600 and E6700 where release at the same time. They probably work but are not recognized in the manual. Same with the Core 2 Extreme X6800.

Samsung did release a BIOS update in 10/2/2007. It is always possible they updated the CPU support list. If and only if they did. Then you may be able to run any LGA 775 1066Mhz FSB or lower Conroe model and possibly Kentsfield models released on or before October 2007. 1333Mhz models may be recognized but run at a lower clock rate. The only way you can find out is to plug one in. Unless you learn how to read the microcode in the BIOS. Which wouldn't be worth the time for such old hardware.
