core duo e7600 1066 mhz FSB

Hi there newbie here . I´m currently runing this CPU in a GA-945GZM-s2 Ev 3.0 mobo. The multiplier is downed to 6X no matter what i do to reverse it. Also the MB keeps running at 800 mgz FSB although a factory option to increase to 1066. any ideas?

It runs at 800 MHz when idle; how fast does it run at full load? Set the Windows power power to high-performance if you want to keep it at full speed (and draw more power).

Hi Ghis! i don´t tink so. I checked it with CPU Z the chip runs underclocked every time (1.6 GHZ) and it should be runing at 3.03 GHZ ( multiplyer x 11.5 but runs with x 6 instead). I´m using also easy tune 6 to confrim it. The BIOS simply refuses to increase from X6 ...

Instead of checking, I presumed that you were using a supported CPU; unfortunately you are not. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-945GZM-S2-rev-3x#support-cpu

Any CPU with N/A in the BIOS revision column is not supported; that's the reason why your CPU runs that slow (your CPU isn't on the list, but it definitely isn't supported).

well i was using an e4700 2.6 but i also have the e7600... i think the prblem has to do with the mobo FSB . it can be overcloked to 1066 mgz for some some reason the system cant start and resets to default all the time

Unlike the E7600, the E4700 is supported. The fastest supported CPU is the Core 2 Extreme X6800, but the performance improvement over the E4700 isn't that significant.

There's no way to get that CPU running at its rated frequency. If you absolutely want to use the E7600, then buy a compatible motherboard (I definitely wouldn't bother).

I see perhaps its not worthy. Anyway i´m frustrated with Gigabyte. A motherboard with a Factory FSB option for overclocking that simply doesn´t work is pathetic.

It's a very old entry-level motherboard that initially met your requirements. You could have bought a GA-EP45-UD3P like I did, but they were significantly more expensive.

I see. Anyway it worked fine but some two years ago i´ve been noticing some limitations. Definetly a new machine is something i ´ve to consider. The major problem regards to the RAM 3 GB limit . Today any system running blelow 4 GB DDR3 is in trouble. Web pages are getting bigger and bigger and background apps are eating ram all the time, AVS at the top.

When it was released more than 10 years ago, it was a good budget motherboard that obviously had its limitations. Memory size may not be your main issue; how busy is the CPU? That CPU is rather slow compared to current budget CPUs like the Pentium G4560.

Another way to improve the performance of an old system is to use a SSD instead of a HDD.

Cpu jumps to 65% usage watching videos ( youtube for instance) and running hard core games with temps jumping to 65 degrees - 40 degrees in idle. Slightly overclocked to 2.95 GHZ / 924 MGZ FSB frequncy
