Core failure during Prime 95 stress test

I just started overclocking my fx 6300. I have the Bus Speed at 200MHz, my Core Speed at 4200MHz, and my cpu voltage set at 1.38 volts. When I stress test in prime 95, core # 4 or 5 or both sometimes will fail after a while. Does this have anything to do with the voltage? Thanks!

yes, it means the overclock is not stable, so you can either turn down the OC, or bumping up the voltage will work.

I have found that Prime95 doesn't play nicely on the AMD FX series, reporting failures when everything is otherwise stable.

I have been using Intel Burn Test. It seems to be more stressful (higher temps) and doesn't give out false failures on AMD FX CPUs.

My 6300/6350/8350 would all fail Prime95 at stock settings within seconds (running blend), yet would pass every other stress test with ease. I am currently running 5.1Ghz on my 8350 and have not had a single stability issue running any other stress test for hours. Infact, all of my FX CPUs have been 100% stable at 5+Ghz with everything other than Prime95 (which was sometimes unstable at stock speeds).

I used my Asus 990FX R2.0 Sabertooth and a CM 212 Evo.

I have had at least 10 6300/6350's every single one of them could hit 5+Ghz.

If you are asking why the CPU-Z link I posted has a 1.536 Vcore, it's because it was one of the first FX6300's that hit the market. It required that voltage to run stably at 5.03 Ghz.

Newer FX6300/6350's seem to require around 1.46 - 1.5 Vcore for a stable 5 Ghz.

This thread is from 2013, not that it matters...

I don't remember what the exact error was. It was an issue with one core (not always the same one). It would typically happen within the first 5 minutes, generally within in the first minute.

Again, it would fail regardless of cooling, voltage or clock speed but would pass all other stress tests with no issues at all. Prime95, at least in 2013 was flawed on AMD FX CPUs. I have not used it since.

For a true stress test, I run IBT on very high for 20 passes. If it passes, IMO, it's stable.

Yeah i know i found the thread through google thanks for responding. I decided to decrease my clock by 100 MHz which is prime stable for 20 minutes which is all i request from my OC. It is also stable with lower voltage I would need better cooler to hit 4500 mark i was aiming for.
