Question Core i3-8100 and C246 Chipset compatibility

Hello,

I have a "simple" question. Will the Core i3-8100 CPU be fully compatible with ASUS WS C246M PRO/SE motherboard ?

When I look at the Intel website, its says that the C246 Chipset only supports Xeon E Processors and the Core i3-8100 is only compatible with the x3xx Chipsets.

But on the ASUS website, it says that the ASUS WS C246M PRO/SE (with C246 Chipset) is compatible with Xeon E as well as with 8th and 9th gen. Core i CPUs.

So which statement is true ?

And a second question: Will the ECC work for this CPU and MB combined with some DDR4 ECC UDIMM memory ?

Yes it is compatible and should work with it so long as it has BIOS version 3002 or newer. If you click the PCPP build link below then look to the bottom where the notes are, it confirms this.

Yes it does, but only a few of the processors. Usually just i3 in the past.

The question was about the compatibility with a specific chipset and motherboard.

I already tested the combination and I can confirm, that there are no compatibility issues and the ECC is working correctly.

So, just a point of constructive criticism, but, blanket statements like this are best left unsaid if you are not 100% certain of the facts. In this case, the facts countermand your statement, because there are a number of Core-i products that DO support ECC, and it simply depends on the model and platform.
