Hey guys I have a question about my overclock. I have it stable at 3.6ghz at 1.27 vcore. At idle my temps are around 36 Celsius but load the temps seem really high after running prime95 around 70-80 celsius. Is this normal or does it have to do with the thermal compound not curing yet and will it help my temperatures if i do. I have a coolermaster hyper 212+ it really was annoying trying to make the thermal compound work and still not sure if i did it right. Any help here would be great thanks.

Ohh sorry... I applied the thermal compound with two small lines across the CPU then i put a very thin layer across the copper heat pipes.

i7 CPUs get ridiculously hot under full load, especially if you have HyperThreading enabled, so 70-80C is normal.

As for the TIM curing, it would depend on what TIM you used. Arctic Silver (any variety, pretty much) requires up to 200 hours to cure, while some of the more exotic pastes (Shin Etsu, IC Diamond, sliced cheese) don't require any curing time.

Correct. Prime95 and other stress tests put an unnatural load that you most likely will never reach in reality, especially if you just do gaming (my i7 [Xeon, actually] sees around 20% usage per core even in Supreme Commander 2).

I wouldnt say thats true i have i7 860 and even under full load ive never seen mine go past 55C(under prime95) and mines running at 3.5ghz.

Hmm... what type of cooler do you have and if it's an HDT cooler can you tell me how you used the thermal compound on it. I've had a really hard time with it.

My current setup.

I7 860 @ 3.6ghz
Sapphire 5870
Asus Maximus III Forumla
1000watt Thermaltake
Tough Power
8Gbs DD3 Kingston hyperx 1800
Fatality platinum
LG22x dvd burner
22 Inch ViewSonic
Zalman CNPS10X Extreme(pain in the butt to install)

I actually had to reinstall my cooler 3 times before i got seated good. And i run my cooler on high setting all the time. Also helps to have a case with really good air flow.

Ohh hey so I placed the heatsink back on my cpu and now I have a max temp of 68 C. So im pretty ok with the temps that I have right now.

-- Edit that's only during end/beginning of a test cycle during prime95 otherwise it's like 65-67

What voltages are you running that chip at? Core, VTT & such.
