would a corsair H100i CPU cooler work well with an intel i7-6700k processor not overclocked? or is there a better alternative?

Solution
Aio also take hear away and vent straight out case. Can significantly lower case temp and help gpu cooling for example. Big air coolers can also interfere with case airflow.

In my case, going from a 212 to a h60, gpu temps dropped quite a bit.

The h100 is also pretty decent. I do agree a good air cooler does the same cooling job however, with some downsides'

Personal choice. At 80w overclocked my 6600k puts out a bit, and I like the silent 800rpm fan on the rad at the top of case pushing the hear out leavind a clean internal for air flow.

Totally personal view and realise different things for different people. I can guarantee a 212 in my matx would cause havoc for cooling the 390.
