Just picked up a corsair cx 430m, i have 2 questions there is a 8 pin plug for the mother board which splits up in to 2 x 4 for the atx, one plug has cpu written on it are they interchangeable or is there a specific one needed for the atx.

Second question the pci has a 8 pin 6 plus 2, can i use the second 4 pin in conjunction with the 2 left over from the pci and the 4 pins left over from the atx to make 2 x 6pin pci.

i hope that's clear.

Solution
I am not quite sure I understand your questions, I'll try and give you some answers though.

The 4+4pin connector is the CPU-power connector. Some motherboards have 8pin, others have 4pin. The reason why newer PSU's have 4+4pin is simply so they are compatible with both boards. So you need to plug your CPU-cable near the CPU on the board, and you should see the connector, looks something like this:

It should be labelled: ATX_12V, or along those lines.

Therefore with 6+2pin PCIE connectors, you gain compatibility with all the different variants.

Hope I understood your questions correctly, and that it helped.

Solution
answer to second question - probably not a good idea. i seem to recall that the power and ground pins are in different locations on the PCIe plugs and the ATX (CPU) plugs, so trying to do a mix-n-match could blow shit up.

you'd be much safer using the Molex (4-pin) plugs with adapters for additional PCIe power, though with that power supply you won't have enough headroom anyways (it's only 430W, remember?)

if you think you might need to run more PCIe power connectors, like for dual cards or a card that needs 2 connectors, step up to a stronger power supply. cx500m has what you need, and there's plenty of other brands/models that are sold with the right number of connectors. i use a 430m in my single-gpu game system, and a 500m in my workstation. i should one day upgrade them to higher quality units, but they've been so solid thus far that i'm not in any hurry.
