Hey guys,

Wondering if any of you out there have positive or negative feedback on the Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 2800Mhz (64GB).

Looking at purchasing a set (pricey, i know) but wanted to see if any of you would recommend or discourage my purchase?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers

You can over clock any stick of RAM as long as your motherboard supports setting RAM speeds that high. Memory rated for higher speeds has just been tested to work at those speeds. In other words RAM sold as supporting 3200MHz speeds is guaranteed to work at that speed, whereas RAM rated at lower speed can still be overclocked but might not work right at those speeds.

Before you spend the...
Unless you are running a server you don't need 64GB of RAM. 16GB is more than enough for most peoples needs.

Also, fancy heatspreaders on RAM are just that, fancy. Don't spend money on cool looking heat syncs for your RAM, they aren't necessary.

High speed RAM also doesn't help boost performance that much, especially if your main concern is games.

I don't know what your use case is, but if this is for a gaming rig just save yourself some cash and go with a 2x8GB DDR4 2133 sticks.

Ah, so you actually need the RAM. Ignore me then 😀 I'm used to seeing geeks bragging about their quad SLI rigs with 128GB of RAM hooked up to a 1080p monitor. It's all about dem bragging rights 😛

All good, appreciate your response though. I guess the next question would be the speed of the RAM - Looking at either 2400Mhz or 2800Mhz and if there is much of a difference between those speeds.

I'm honestly not sure if 2400MHz or 2800MHz will make much of a difference for your purposes, so I can't really give good advice there. The only thing I can really say is that going with 2400 will save you a couple hundred bucks, which might matter to you if price is a concern. And while I can't speak about those exact sticks, I do know that Corsair is a good brand, and as long as you buy your RAM from a good brand (Corsair and Crucial are my usual gotos, some people like G.Skill) you should be fine.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. There is a bit of a decent price difference between 2400Mhz and 2800Mhz, and at this stage I was merely looking for the higher MHZ for future OC possibilities if needed.

May even look at HyperX Fury / Savage 2400Mhz.

Thanks JBQ45. This is ideal, however tossing up between the lowest CAS, Mhz and Brand.

Thanks, however I'm looking for 64GB (4x16GB).

Sorry about that I remember now that 64GB was required.

Thanks, I hadn't really had a looked at these and reasonably priced for 3200Mhz in comparison to other brands. Most probably wouldn't be OC'ing at this stage, however good to know that if in the future I need to, I can.

Aren't I restricted if I only go for a 2400Mhz model. How can you overclock these to 3200?

Thought you could only OC if the spec rate is already set over 2133Mhz. Excuse my ignorance.

Before you spend the money on higher speed RAM though, you should probably check out some forums more geared toward your profession/needs to see if you will actually get a significant performance boost from buying faster RAM.
