Corsair H100i V2 and ASUS Sabretooth 990FX

I currently have a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 CPU cooler, but wanted a liquid cooler, so opted for the Corsair H100i V2.

Now, I installed it to a T from the instructions. But afterwards my PC refused to boot. Not even into the BIOS.

My problem is that I didn't keep the original CPU bracket plate, on the rear of the mobo, which pissed me off to no end, so attempted to use the DRP2 brackets, which worked, and everything was secure, but didn't want to boot.

Would the above work?

I've tried booting with the CPU_FAN connected, disconnected, and the USB header connected and disconnected, but still nothing.

My specs are:

ASUS Sabretooth 990fx R2.0
AMD 8350 FX.

Or is the liquid cooler goosed? I swapped back to my DPR2 cooler and booted as normal.

Solution
Yeah, if you have steel touching a bare mobo PCB its probably going to short and prevent a boot. Like I said something about the way the H100i mounts up on the be quiet mounting kit must be causing a short.
Well the computer should still turn on even if the liquid cooler was broken. Something is shorting to the mobo and not allowing it to boot. Something about the way that H110i mounts up on the dark rock back plate must be causing a short.

Personally I would send that ridiculous water cooler back and use the dark rock. What are you trying to get 5.0ghz out of that 8350? If not its totally pointless, in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm using the Dark Pro brackets to hold it into place, and it worked. I'm assuming it wants me to use the default back-plate. I have a feeling it's exactly because of the missing back-plate, and there's some sort of shorting out going on because all 4 points are not connected, as shown in the picture.

I wanted to try water cooling, as I still get temps of 65 or more when playing Battlefield 1 for extended periods. This is even after replacing the thermal paste with some silver SP-700 grease.

I have done, and it booted no problem. I got a BIOS message about over-clocking being disabled, even though I haven't over-clocked? But at least it's booted.

Like I stated above , the BeQuiet is the better cooler.

Perhaps. But would still like to know why my PC won't boot with it installed since I've just blown £110 on it.

Would using the Dark Pro brackets be doing this?

Not sure how it can't be mounted properly? It's pretty straight forward tbh. Remove original back plate, replace with the one provided, and screw into place? Saying that, I use the ASUS-Suite to set it at silent, to quieten the fans...

65c core temp for that cpu is too hot, amd recommends it not exceed 62c for constant operation. Are you sure its clamping down on the chip properly. At stock voltage that cooler should be able to keep that cpu WELL below 60c. So something is not right.

Right now, the Thermal Radar is reporting 34 degrees. That's even with the side panels off. I'll monitor it as I have a bash at BF1 now.

But would you agree that I just send it back to Amazon and get my money back?

I'll just return it then. Tried eBaying a back plate, but they're like gold dust. Too much messing about. Good job Amazon are pretty good about returns! Thanks for your help, appreciate it.

No problem.

One last thing; the brackets I'm using have got to be the reason. The middle screw 'prong' is touching the mobo both on the top and bottom bracket.
