Question Corsair H150 RGB AIO - Is this noise normal ?

I recently built myself a PC (got it built). There are no problems with the temperature. At idle, the CPU sits at 38 degrees. After gaming for a while, I realized that a noise was coming from the AIO pump. It is a Corsair iCUE H150 RGB 360 mm AIO water cooler. It is installed with the radiator on top.

I have tried tilting the PC, it does go away for a short while, but does come back again. I don't hear it while I have headphones on, but I subconsciously look for it I guess.

Is this sound normal or should I be worried? (I recorded it through putting my phone's microphone right next to the pump)

Here's also a video of the sound:

Here are my specs:
MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi
AMD Ryzen 7 9700x
Corsair iCUE H150 RGB 360 mm AIO
Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (16x2) DDR5 RAM
NZXT H7 Flow (2024)
Corsair 1000W 80+ Gold Full Modular PSU

That, to me, sounds like the pump. Go into BIOS and manually manipulate(lower) the RPM for the pump. Speaking of pump, which header on the motherboard did you hook the pump up to?
I had it built for me. After looking, it looks like its on the PUMP_FAN header. SYS_FAN and CPU_FAN are occupied too. MSI Center proves that PUMP_FAN header is indeed connected to the pump because when I change CPU FAN speed, the radiator fans speed up. I can't change the pump fan because it seems like it has to be done on BIOS. SYS_FAN is case fan.

I also can't change the speed of the pump because it's not on Smart Fan mode and I've seen people say that it should run at %100 so I'm not sure if I should use Smart Fan or not.

Check in BIOS first, software is not that reliable. AIO_PUMP headers are usually not speed adjustable but W_PUMP usually are.

Like this? https://ibb.co/n1pSbgk
Excuse my ignorance but how is this supposed to help?
It looks to me like I'm just increasing the fan speed and I've heard that Smart Fan is not good for AIOs. Is that wrong?
In that picture it's all about pump and no other fans. You can also try Full speed button. Pump is not going to run faster than it's max speed no matter what you set it to.

The thing is I want to lower the RPM though, since it's already running at full speed. That might be the reason of the noise.

Yes, only you can tell what's best for you. Don't have to pay much attention to idle temps but those approaching CPU Tjmax or max temps in normal use. Any temperature under 95c is fine. 80-85c would be quite normal.

OK, so I tried some things quickly. Turning PWM to DC did lower the RPM and the sound did decrease but it was still there somewhat. I have a feeling that the pump might fail at a certain point because to me, this doesn't sound all that normal. As you've seen in the videos, it is not that loud but I have a gut feeling that things might go south after a certain point. I'm not comfortable with it being like this.

I'm thinking of buying an air cooler on Monday and then I want to RMA this, let them see what things are and if they say it's not faulty, then I will sell it.

Do you have any air cooler recommendations for 9700x?

Should be more than enough, don't need an AIO at all.
Nice but it isn't in stock where I live (with the trusted sites that I know).

I can buy:
  • Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 Plus V2
  • Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 EVO
  • Thermalright Assassin X 120 Refined SE
  • Thermalright Burst Assassin
  • Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120
  • DeepCool AK620 Zero Dark (or Digital)

That CPU's TDP is only 65W, any of those should work.

Allright, thank you.

I have a final question since I haven't built this PC myself but got it built for me. Should be cautious of anything in the installing procedure in general? (other than static, but I have a static wrist band so that doesn't count)

Static is not dangerous unless very strong. Other than that, just be methodical, loose screws first and than unscrew completely specially on the pump. turn pump left and right a bit until paste looses the grip, don't pull it straight up, it can be sticky. Get come concentrated alcohol, preferably isopropyl and soft cloth or tissue, there's a lot of sticky paste to clean up. Make sure paste comes with new cooler or buy some if not. Watch some YT videos on applying paste, can be tricky and there are quite a few methods, Make sure power is turned off on PSU or disconnected from PSU. Maybe even make some pictures with open side so you know where everything goes. Coolers usually come with mountings for several different sockets, so make sure you read mounting instructions for particular cooler.

Thank you. Do I have to remove the backplate in AM5? I've seen some that don't change it. I don't want to remove my motherboard to change a cooler.

An update: I think I solved it. So the pump fan had a 3 pin connector and was on PWM. I put it on DC and then turned Smart Fan on for it (default smart fan curves applied). It is much better now. Most people have suggested to have the pump on %100 but noise is annoying as hell (not loud, but its like a fly in my ear type of annoying).

Would Smart Fan damage the pump or something? I played some games and the temps were as is.
