Corsair h80i and 8350 overheating issue

I've had this cooler and cpu for a while now, more than a year. Yesterday while playing a game my pc just shut down, no prompts, no bsod, nothing. I attempt to reboot and couldn't make it passed the windows loading screen. I boot into bios and see that my cpu is idle at 65c. Clearly the issue since the day before was idle at 20c. I finally take heat-sink off and see barely any paste left on cpu and cooler. So I clean and reapply. Boot perfectly fine and getting back to 20c idle temps.

Now the issue is, sometimes when I boot my cpu will be idle at 20c, other times back to 65c idle. There is no pattern, could this be the corsair pump?

Unless your radiator is plugged with dust, it's a failing pump. The downside to water cooling is that it takes longer for the water to cool down than a standard heatsink does. See if the RPM cable is connected to a fan header and what it's reporting in the BIOS.

Check with Corsair to see if it's still under warranty.

Recently cleaned, but will try cleaning out with air compressor today to be sure. If cpu still hot, pump is most likely to blame.

Yeah, sounds like a pump. If you do have the RPM cable connected, you should see an RPM in the range of about 3500-4500rpm.

Contacted corsair and their sending me new cooler. Will come back with results when I add to system.
