Hey guys this is my first post here, been reading posts for a while here though and figured this is the best place to come for help.
I have an i7 3970x that is unlocked or whatever so it goes up to like 4.3 GHZ.
I'm using a corsair h80i cooler. I've been using this cooler for about a year and a half or so. While my idle temps have never been great (55-60's) I always attributed that to just the i7 being hot.
Over the past week or two I noticed my performance in games was declining, but nothing drastic, so I figured it was just a buggy update or something of that sort.
But the past couple of days, my performance tanked, with me getting 5-10 fps on games I have been getting 400+ fps on for the past year.
Noticed my GPU temps are fine, but when I checked my processor, I noticed they were very high, in the 80's and pushing my max of 91. I tried reapplying thermal paste, even though it had only been a year or so, to no avail. I'm pretty sure I didn't use too much either.
It used to only be noticeable in games but now I can't even browse the web because my temps on all my cores hit 91.
Corsair Link shows the pump working at 2200~ RPM, and both the fans are spinning and on high setting at like 2500~ RPM.
I really don't know what to do or what the problem could be. I thought maybe it was windows or a virus untill I noticed I had temps of 91 at a load of 10%. I don't know if it's a problem with the processor? I doubt it but I really don't know. The chip was like 1 grand and I really don't think it would just poop out after a year.
Which is why I'm pretty sure it's the corsair water cooler. And even though the pump and fans appear to be working, my temps are crazy high and I can barely even browse the web. Heck I'm posting this from my phone because I'm too scared to let my poor baby run any more under these conditions.
I really appreciate your time and any help with this problem. I am an avid gamer and when my computer doesn't work, well, you know how that feels.
