I go for function over form. Can you point to what used to be the green wire, the one that the case switch is attached to?

Part of "function" includes making maintenance easier.

Pfft, Apple DOES rip people off. But like said above, sleeving the cables can take a very long time..so paying the premium for it may well be worth it. Though it would be nice if it was a tad cheaper.
