I have a TX 750M PSU, I am looking at upgrading my graphics card from an RX 5700 to an RTX 3080 - based on the specs below will I need to upgrade my PSU?
The 3080 average power consumption is around 300w region. Consider with that Transient Spikes of 2x, and that makes it around 600w. These are approx. figures, which means it can go up or down a little bit. Add to that the rest of the system power draw, and that makes it pretty close to that 750w mark. Remember, a 750w does not mean it will give you 750w as they are not 100% efficient.
Now, 750w is what is recommended for the 3080 officially. And that is, considering a decent quality unit which the TXM is. But there have been reports of system shut downs even with quality 750w/850w PSUs AFAIK.
So, to be honest, nobody can tell you for certainty whether you will face the same issue, until you try it out. But, do keep your options open for a upgrade.
It is a close call. Note that not all 3080 are the same in regard to required power - just as with any other GPU there are models that need less or more power. So it may be that it will suffice for some 3080 but will not for some others.
