Hi,
I have Corsair's RM750x power supply on my server. As the storage needs increase, I was looking for an extra SATA cable for the power supply. In our country, these original accessories are either unavailable or cost a lot (shipping + import duty). But luckily, I found the type 3 cable at a local store for a great price. Both cost 7 USD. So without a second thought, I bought it. Because according to these websites type 3 and type 4 SATA cables are the same.

But when I came home and compared the two, I saw that they were all the same except for one pin in the middle. Here is the pic.

I tested it on an old hard drive. There was no issue. My question is, my server is running 24/7, can I use this cable?
Thanks in advance.

When did you purchase the RM750x?

I've had an instance where I was handed a bag of Seasonic PSU cables meant for my S12II Evo 520W unit, for free, which I'd asked for in order to do a custom sleeve job on for my personal rig. Luckily, I was able to look through the pinout diagram for my cables and noticed a pin was placed in the wrong port from the factory.

I'd suggest that you trace the wire that's supposed to be +5v and see if it terminates on both areas on the SATA connector. If it does, I'd depin the one on the left and have the pin in the same location as the right connector.

That's how I would've gone about things, if I were you.

Since you're not me, I'd suggest that you contact your seller and inform them of what you've found out and if they'll honor a warranty if the components+PSU get fried due to the wrong pinout of a cable.

I can trace the wire with a multimeter. Thanks for the suggestion. I will let you know.

That is clearly a different pin out I would look for a type 4 cable. Checking the voltage could work the cables pins in different spots could still have the same reading.
On their site it does say all the pinouts are the same between type 3 & 4 but the 24 pin cable.

I contacted the seller. He will refund me if I return it within 7 days of purchase. But he cannot replace it as he does not have the type 4.
Anyway, I did trace for the 5v wire as you mentioned, and measured the voltage on the PSU side and SATA connector side. The middle pin is for the 5v which is flipped. Here are some pics of what I found.

I checked the voltages on the SATA port on both Type 3 and Type 4. They are all the same. So,
it is safe to use, right?

Yes, you're right. The pins are in different positions but the readings at the SATA port are the same.
