My pc build:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64x
Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 ghz
evga x58 SLI
Corsair dominator 6gb ddr3 1600 tri channel
bfg gtx 295
Western Digital 500GB HDD
Corsair 850 watt psu

My question: I was looking through the newspaper today and I got to the frys ad, they have the Corsair vengeance 16gb for $210 after a $20 MIR. This caught my eye. I was thinking I could get this and sell my current RAM for maybe about $100 so I would only be spending about $110 for 16gb of ram. I know 16GB is a little overkill but do you guys think my idea is a good one? Inputs? Opinions?

A problem I'm facing right now is I am only getting 4GB of my 6GB is working. It's saying "6.00GB (3.99 GB usable) I've resat my RAM, I've taken the mobo out and replaced my CPU heatsink, updated bios, and I finally changed voltages which solved the problem for a few months but now it's back to 3.99GB. I'm thinking maybe getting new RAM could solve this possibly? I've looked for solutions and many people have this problem but there's not really any set fix for it. So yes, input would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Okay, at least the BIOS 'sees' the DIMM slot, so your MOBO is seems okay; no dead DIMM slot.

DRAM -> 1.65v {closet value at or above 1.65v}
QPI PLL Vcore -> Auto
CPU VTT Voltage -> 1.25v~1.32v

Failure:
My assumption will then be faulty RAM if Memtest fail 2 passes; download {ISO/zip} and create a bootbale CD/DVD - http://www.memtest.org/

So I tried every stick of ram in every dimm slot, well none of them worked in the 2nd slot, they all worked in the 4th slot and 1 of them worked in the 6th slot. So I tried getting the 4th and 6th slot to work but they won't work at the same time or something. 2nd slot is completely dead I think so I guess it's my board that's F'd, not the RAM. Sucks because I never registered my board so I don't have a warrenty anymore. woops. :C

I got it from newegg and have the invoice but it says on their site and on the box "Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days of the ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive EVGA's Free Extended Warranty. All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty. " I ordered mine on 3/9/09

EVGA accepted the RMA, I just got the replacement today, I put it together, turned it on. Success! 6GB showing! Soon after I had to restart due to a program update, so it restarts and I see that it's only showing 4GB again, my heart sank and rage overcame me. I went into bios, fixed stuff, 4 GB again, then 2GB, 4GB, so on.. Finally I turn it to xms settings and I get 6GB. That works for about 5 hours maybe, I'm in the middle of playing bad company 2, I go and get some water and come back to my computer. I'm sitting here trying to get the fingernail out from being stuck in between my front teeth and I notice out of the corner of my eye my screen turn black... a restart... So I see it shows 4GB again, I restart go to bios, manually set everything up, save and restart.. it shows 2GB, I get mad, punch my computer and it shows 4GB, I punch it again and it's at 2GB, mess with bios some, go back to xms and it's showing 4GB again so I just let it be and that's where I am at now.

So I guess it's not a mobo issue but I got a new or refurbed one out of it. So is this a RAM thing? or something else. This issue is haunting me! I'm almost tempted to part this out and build a new pc. GRRRR. Thanks for all your help you've given me, much appreciated! :)

It seems clear enough to me, it's a RAM thing :(

I own 10 sets of TR3X6G1600C8D and have recommend the same to 100's of people with not blow backs to me. If you're into WEI it's 7.9 {pegs the scale}. They overclock to 1800 MHz very easily and are solid as a rock.
