Corsair XMS2 with Crucial Ballistix?

I currently have the XMS2 in my system and it's worked just fine. I've been thinking about getting more ram but my options have been really limited since my mobo only goes up to 1.95v for the DIMMs.

But I read a review that said the Ballistix ran at DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 at 1.9v which is nice since my XMS2 wouldn't run at anything below 5-5-5-12 at DDR2
800.

I was thinking about keeping both of them so that I'd be ready for Vista with 4GB of ram but I was wondering, is that even a good idea to mix those two?

I do OC as you can see but I usually reduce my memory clock to 667 for that since I can't give my DIMMs any extra juice.

Since chances are extremely low that you would get DIMMs from the same batch as in the review, it would seem to me that the important thing is what the manufacturer says. In addition, they will be the ones you will have to deal with in a RMA situation.

The bad aspect of mixing memory is that the ONLY way to know for sure if it will work is to install and test which means you have to buy it first. You may be better off in this case to try to find a good price on a 2 x 2gb kit that will run in your board and find some other use for your current memory. Since your Vdimm is limited on that board (ASUS Crosshair I am guessing???) that may further limit your chances of mixing RAM successfully.

Indeed, and I think the manufacturer spec for this RAM is PC6400 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v so........

Your XMS2 800 won't run below 5-5-5-15 at 400MHz? You must have a bad batch. I have run that same RAM at 4-4-4-12 at 400MHz and have had it down in sync mode with 4-3-3-10. Of course, I have run that Ballistix at 4-3-3-11 at 400MHz and have had it in sync mode with 3-3-3-9 1T.
