See the 12 little tabs on the bracket? Put those through the 12 openings between the 12 tabs on the pump, then twist the bracket so that the 12 tabs on the bracket catch on the 12 tabs on the pump. Then the plastic piece should just clip onto the pump to hold the bracket in place.

Take a moment and think about it. CPU_FAN is the fan for the CPU. You only have one fan for your CPU, and it's on your radiator. CPU_OPT is for optional CPU cooling devices. The only cooling device for your CPU (other than the fan) is your pump.

Radiator fan to CPU_FAN, pump to CPU_OPT.

It instantly jumped to that temp... then rose to about 87. The processor is more than 3 years old, and I took it out of my old Alienware X51... if that has anything to do with it

The only main thing that can go wrong with CPUs as they age is electron migration. It takes much longer than 3 years for this to occur. The age of your CPU does not play a role here.

Gaming is not a stress test. It does not load up the memory controller unless it's using all available RAM 100% of the time. This means that games produce less heat from the CPU than stress tests do.

It'll get higher under workloads like video editing/rendering. Stress test for at least an hour to get an idea of maximum temps. 1 hour is more than long enough for your coolant to heat up. You'll notice temps will continuously rise slowly until they level off probably around 30-40 into the test. Whatever the highest temp is that you see, that's your max temp. If it's under 85C, you're doing fine.
