My acer P191w monitor isnt working. I finally build my computer and I turned it on for the very first time, I got the monitor from my brother who never had any problems with the monitor before. Here is my build:
Thermaltake V9 case
Gigabyte 890gx mobo
Gskill 1600 cas 7 ripjaws ram
Antec truepower 750w PSU
ATI (xfx) 5850 (stock not overclocked)
Seagate barracuda hard drive
LG cd dvd writer
AMD 955 BE CPU

My monitor turns on fine, it says "ACER" then it says "no signal" about 4 seconds later. Both the mobo and monitor have a DVI cables/ports. My computer turns on fine, all the fans and PSU works too. I looked all over the internet and have tried the power cool down with the monitor (unplugging monitor and holding down the power button), I've tried unplugging and blowing in the cables and making sure theres not bend wires or anything and plugged them back in and still nothing. I have read that it could be the motherboard. Any ideas as to whats wrong and how I can fix it would help greatly. Thanks.

OK - gimme a little bit to look into the G.Skill p/n, and I'll get back with some procedure; do you have a USB 'thumb drive' handy? (I'm sure you didn't bother with something so archaic as a floppy drive 😉 - they're damned handy for flashing BIOS...)

I'm a bit slow, here, had a 'plumbing disaster - ten gallons on water on the bathroom floor, replaced a supply line, water behind the shower enclosure, in the basement, and now it's threatening to drip into the power supply for my water-cooling setup built into the basement ceiling 😱

Couple things - the DVD connection 'type', and - do me a favor, pick any damn thing as 'best answer' (so I don't accidentally dig into it) and start a new thread - this is wearing out my scroll wheel :??:
I just assumed you were using another system all this while - toss em on the USB (create a few directories to keep 'em 'sorted out'; you will also want to download these files:
http://america.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_gsata_bootdisk_64_amd333.exe
http://america.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_amd_sataraid_bootdisk_8-series_win7.exe
run each one of 'em now, on the second machine - one will create a directory called "Floppy64", and the other, "SB8xxW7"; copy these two directories and their contents to the USB as well...

Put 'em on the USB - we're gonna wipe the disk on the baby you just got running...

I'm going to post the win install stuff now, as I'm having trouble with Tom's - it's telling me, nearly every time I switch screens "site unavailable - come back later blah blah... Just in case it's defunct I'll try to get it all for tonight!

There is a set of screen shots at:
http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install.asp

boot to your install DVD, and go through the six screens as shown...

Then here:
http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_02.asp

first screen shown, select 'custom'

second screen:

first, select "load driver", navigate first to the ""Floppy64" directory on the USB, select what's shown (should only be one)
then navigate to the "SB8xxW7" directory, do the same...
Next, select "drive options" that should take you to the third screen on Paul's web site...
Select, by clicking on it, the disk 0 partition that's already there, click on the 'X delete'; that should remove the partition - there will likely be a confirmation or two; next, click on '* new' to create a partition - make the new partition 24 gig smaller than the total available drive space... Then, with that new partition selected (may or not have to click on it to select, as it's the only one) select 'next' - and that should start the install... Pat yourself on the back, pop one of those beers I told you to pick up, and tell me in the morning how it went... I will walk you through the rest. In the meantime, as soon as you have a bootable windoze, pop in the driver disk that came with the board, and let it start - deselect (uncheck) the 'Easy Energy Saver' and 'Browser Configuration' utilities, and then click "Install all", it will likely need to reboot a few times during the process - when it's done, reboot, and then install the 10.2 catalyst driver you acquired earlier... Tomorrow, I'll walk you through doing the BIOS/OS backup process - don't install any programs like office ar anything in the meantime - or the backup process won't work!

OK, I turned on my computer. Put in the Windows 7 64 bit DVD, it skipped a few slides in the first screen (maybe because its already installed). I then accepted the license terms, then clicked on custom and after that, thats where I'm stuck. I saved all 5 downloads to a file on my USB drive I just titled it "downloads (drivers)" just to keep it organized. I clicked on the load driver and I didnt see a Floppy 64 directory on the USB. All I can select from my USB is the file and it still wont recognize it.

This'll take 'till tomorrow - I'll replicate the setup here, and see what's up - I've never loaded a driver from USB, as I always build every machine in my purview with a floppy. I've been working on a 'USB FAQ' for GB boards anyhow - this'll just 'push' me to get another 'chunk' of it done... I have nine different boot partitions to play with, so it won't be risky for me at all - just a bit time consuming...

...in the AM (sometime)...

alright then, I appreciate all the time and effort you have put forth into helping. Theres not a lot of people in this forum, (let alone just people in general) willing to help someone this much. Thanks for all your so far, I do have a feeling that we are getting close and my build it finally going to be complete!

OK - did a quick seven64 install this AM - here's what I found. You can put all the files from the two driver directories into the root of your flash. The is a naming conflict - they will both have a file called "txtsetup.oem" - ignore this - won't matter, it's not 'machine readable'; place the contents of the "Floppy64" directory, and the "RAID/W764A" directory together in the root; plug in the USB when you boot to the install CD; when you click browse, get where your USB is;
step1f.jpg

Once you select it, and click OK, you should get this (your driver names will be different...):
step2i.jpg

Then select one driver and click 'next' to load that one:
step3oh.jpg

Repeat the whole thing to get the other driver loaded, and then sit back while seven installs itself!!

'Floppy64' is the directory we created by running the
"motherboard_driver_gsata_bootdisk_64_amd333.exe" file -
It has the following files in it:
jraid.cat
Jraid.sys
txtsetup.oem, and
xraid_f.inf

'SB8xxW7' is the directory we created by running the
"motherboard_driver_amd_sataraid_bootdisk_8-series_win7.exe" file -
It has the following files in its "RAID/W&64A" folder:
ahcix64s.cat
ahcix64s.inf
ahcix64s.msi and
ahcix64s.sys

Put all eight of those files in the root of your USB, and try the 'load drivers' procedure above...

I moved all 8 files directly into my usb. I didnt put them in a file or just directly or in the 'root' of my usb and I browsed each driver but it either will have an saying to make sure it has the right driver, or it wont say anything and nothing will come on the screen.

Is it similar to the last screen I posted - "Select the driver to be installed"? The names will not match what's on my screen - your hardware is different - your drivers will be different - if you're showing two items, select each one in turn, and simply click on 'Next'...

No, it looks different. The load driver screen looks the same. It has arrows next the names not pluses (not a big deal), I click on my usb drive, I click on Floppy64 then I click on one of the drivers but it doesnt work. I tried every driver and it didnt work. Then I tried putting every driver directly into the usb to see if that worked. It didnt either.

Nah - something's wrong - you shouldn't be seeing the actual driver file names - they should show a title.

The title comes from the [strings] section of the .inf file that accompanies the drivers - mine looks like this:

[strings]
JMICRON="JMicron Technology Corp."
GBT.DeviceDesc="GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller"
;SCSI\ProcessorJMicron_RAIDController______.DeviceDesc="JMicron JMB36X RAID Processor"
DISKNAME="JMicron Driver Diskette"
ClasFilt.SvcDesc = "JMicron Hot-Plug Driver"

Your two should look like this:

[strings]
JMICRON="JMicron Technology Corp."
GBT.DeviceDesc="GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller"
;SCSI\ProcessorJMicron_RAIDController______.DeviceDesc="JMicron JMB36X RAID Processor"
DISKNAME="JMicron Driver Diskette"

for the GSATA ports, and:

[Strings]
; *******Localizable Strings*******
ATI= "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc."
Desc_amd640= "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller Driver"
NapaDesc= "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller"
ATI_Raid_ControllerDesc= "AMD RAID Console"

for the AMD ports - check that those .inf's are present...

Well - you have to open the .inf files with notepad to see the part I posted - don't bother with it; just verify that the following seven files are in the root directory of your flash drive:
jraid.cat
jraid.sys
xraid_f.inf
ahcix64s.cat
ahcix64s.sys
ahcix64s.inf
ahcix64s.msi
there may be more files, but those are the seven you need...

I dont whats going on now. I put in the windows disk and it askes me if I want to 'Install' and I click OK but it doesnt go to the installation set up. The same screen just keeps popping up and askes if I want to install. I have pretty much tried every variation of putting those 7 files in different places. I have tried putting them directly in the usb, doesnt work, I have tried putting them in a folder, doesnt work. I select the driver but nothing comes up ever. It will either say nothing, or that theres an error or its not a driver or something.

None of them. I'm not having a problem with the windows starting now. It might have been the cd drive being weird or something. But I'm still having a problem getting those files to load! I select the usb and everthing but nothing is working. So I really need this stuff? Whats it for again?

Ahhh - let's give it up - the drivers are to simplify life if and when you eventually decide to run RAID (or AHCI on the GSATA ports...); the drivers are a real PITA to 'add' later, usually really easy to 'stick in' at OS install... Just go ahead with the OS install, and, as I pointed out, leave 20-24 GB 'empty' (unpartioned) at the 'end' of the drive. This is for emergencies - we're going to back-up the BIOS and 'bare' OS into this space. You won't miss it - it actually makes your drive faster to not use all of it. I use a set of four (extremely fast) WD VelociRaptors, in two RAID0 'pairs' for my boot/swap partitions, and I leave about a third of 'em 'unused', purely for speed!

All I have is a disk partition1 which is a reserve of some kind but its not enough space, and I have a disk parition2 which is just my hard drive (about 450 gb free space) but I dont see a disk0 unallocated space like it says in the slides. And my thing doesnt show 'driver options' at all.
