Could this be a SSD/HDD Issue?

So recently I have been experiencing some strange freezing with my computer. For example, when I try to open a program it acts like its loading but nothing happens. Usually its one or two programs at a time and the others work fine. If I restart me PC it sometimes fixes it.

Additionally, sometimes when a program is already open it freezes up. It doesn't say "not responding", it is just frozen. I can't click, can't close it, and can't stop it in task manager.

Lastly, windows file explorer is suddenly giving me issues. Sometimes when I open it, it opens then freezes. Other times, it opens and then loads SUPER slow. At the moment it is stuck open and frozen.

All of this just started happening in the past week or so. I have tried running multiple anti-virus scans, and ran Norton power eraser. No threats have been detected. I'm just not sure what could be causing these issues.

What are your thoughts?

Solution
Open Speccy, click Storage, then expand 'SMART attributes' for the problem drive - go to the end of each row and see if any say anything other than 'Good'
How old is the system? When was the last time you did virus checks and with what software? Would you be up for an OS reinstall? I doubt this is drive related.

Also download 'Speccy' and see what the SMART table looks like - any red sections.

The system is a year and a half old. I do virus scans every three days with Norton.

I would hate to have to reinstall the OS

I will give speccy a try.

Many Thanks!

I can't get Speccy to work, it just says analyzing forever. I have defaulted all of my BIOS settings though. I figured it would be good to do so, just to see if the problem persists. Maybe this is an issue with Windows 10, now that I think about it, I noticed these issues just a week or two after installing 10.

Assuming it analyzes the components in the order they are listed, it was hanging on the CPU. However, all components other than "Operating System" were stuck saying "Analyzing".

However, I re-installed today and now it appears to be working. What should I be looking for?

Also, last night I played around with the PC a good bit and I'm noticing a multitude of additional issues. They are as follows:
- Downloads won't initiate
- Several programs (including windows updates) hang while loading
- Encountered issues with Skype, tried to uninstall, gets 99% done and then freezes
- Skype won't install; hangs on loading screen
- Upon closing google chrome, it often displays an message stating that I still have downloads in progress, even if I haven't attempted a download.
- Cleaned up unused/empty directories, after this my issues seemed to become more frequent
-I was playing ARMA 3 last night, over the course of about 4 - 6 hours I was pulled from the game multiple times due to random programs opening (This NEVER happened before).

I ran scans with malware bytes, norton, and norton power eraser. No threats were detected

At that point I finally did a system restore to a point several hours before. So far I haven't noticed any issues with the system, however, I am still wondering what was causing the problems. I would like to continue troubleshooting in hopes of finding a solution.

Thank you very much for your continued assistance!

Both of my drives say "Good".

For whatever reason, I haven't had any issues after that system restore I did. However, it worries me that I was having problems several days before the restore point was created, so the issues are likely still there.

I'm starting to wonder if this could be some software incompatibility issues with windows 10. Maybe I had some conflicting programs and they were making things act weird, and after the restore maybe some updates were installed that resolved the issue?

IDK...I will wait a few days to see how things go.

Thanks for all your help!

So, Its been several days since I did the system restore. So far I have noticed only one small issue. While in MS Word, sometimes the mouse doesn't seem to do anything. Can't select text, can't click tabs, etc. Other than that, no issues. So, I guess for now I will let this one fade into eternity...

Thanks so much for your suggestions and help!
