Could this be bandwidth throttling?

Hello folks,

I can't, for the life of me, figure this one out. Mega, something like 1 or 2 months ago started to behave in a very weird way, and I'm posting here because it seems more of a network than a software issue.

So yeah, 1 or 2 months ago, out of the blue, Mega became almost unusable for me, with useless downloads speeds. What bugs me is the behavior of the downloads: for a couple of seconds it goes at a decent speed, then slows to a crawl (mostly stopping completely), then, several seconds after, it will gasp for air, with the download rising from anywhere between 100kb/s to full speed, and then it will drop dead in the same way as before. This cycle continues repeating itself throughout the download.

This happens not only in the browser, but on MegaSync and JDownloader. Also, I'm using cabled networking, and everywhere else speeds are fine.

Is this behavior compatible with bandwidth throttling? I would have though that throttling would limit the speed, but not cause this unstable mess.

Any clues at all are welcome.

Thanks!

Speed is fine everywhere except for Mega.

So, it turns out it wasn't a throttling issue. I just tested Mega on my Linux notebook and it works fine. ATM the more reasonable culprit seems to be the firewall, so I'm troubleshooting this at Kaspersky, but if someone got any other ideas, please let me know 🙂
So what happens if you download from a more mainstream site. How fast does something from steam download. What happens if you go to microsoft and download a large file.

If it works fine for other sites then it is not likely a problem you can do anything about...assume no software bugs if their application is proprietary.

Still even sites like steam have problems from time to time. Especially when a new game releases that is huge. These companies only have so much bandwidth and when you have lots of people attempting to use it everyone slows down.
