Could this system run on a *500W PSU* [375W, 31 Amps 12V, Dual rail]

I was wondering if a rig I plan on getting will be able to run on a "500W Xigamtek NPR-VC-503", it has 31 Amps on the +12V Rail, (+12v1 = 16Amps, +12V2 = 15Amps), and by multiplying 31 by 12 I got 372W, I wa wondering if it will be enough to run the following low power SB rig.

Specs :

Mobo : Asus P8H61-M LX2 (Rev. 3

CPU : Intel Core i3 2100 3.1Ghz

RAM : 4GB DDR3 1333mhz (2x 2GB

HDD : 500GB S-ATAII 3.0Gb/s

DD :22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB

SPU : Onboard 7.1 Audio

CASE : Xigmatek Asgard

PSU ; 500W Xigmatek PSU (NRP-VC503)



I was wondering if this rig could run off of that PSU, it is the maximum upgrade choice as the website I am ordering from will build he PC and you can choose certain parts, it is not cheaper to homebuild so please do not suggest it.

Yes, as your system w/5850 would only require a "GOOD" 400 Watt PSU. So 500 watts is plenty. A 500 W PSU would be required for 5870 should you upgrade.

Your system, less as the I3-2100 and lower end MB will use less power than the referenced test system.

PLEASE NOTE - I did not address the "Quality" of the PSU you identified. You can google that to see if that PSU belongs in a computer, or best used as a door stop.

I am sorry but i thought the OC feature was locked.Being a good overclocker and having locked features arent the same..Am I wrong?
 


That question was already answered, I was asking if I could run a HD 5850 on it.



Whoops, meant to say the H61 Chipsets had locked OC and Multiplier, my bad.

The Xigmatek NRP-PC502 power supply will probably be OK in an office/internet PC but not in a gaming or overclocking rig. There are far better 500W units available in this price bracket.

Well, I won't be overclockign with the i3 2100 or later as I have a H61 Chipset, but that information you posted was helpful, as 315W translates to 26.25 Amps, and this PSU has 31 Amps on a dual rail, 16A on 12V1, 15A on 12V2, which translates back to 372W in power.

Also, the PSU is the NRP-VC503, not NPR-VC503, sorry about that.
 
so wait I told you your current power draw (with the first card you put in there before editing your post) and the recommended psu size to be safe to run everything 24/7 for a year and you had more power than even that. Then you change your specs to a little more powerful video card and think that youre going to jump from 344w to over 500?
 
No, I never changed the specs, and never edited my post to put in a Video card, or whatever you think I did, but, since I said that i was thinking I could handle a HD 5850, I don't have 500W, as the PSU doesn't has a 80% efficiency tag, though it does have 31 Amps, meaning I have around 375Watts, as said in the main post, but you though had 500W, which is why I said re-read the thread.
 
so the only devices you are plugging in are 12v devices? youre not plugging in your motherboard or the auxiliary 4 pin connector? You cant just add the 12v rails up and say that's all the power you have. Here's the specs page for your psu and if its not 80+ certified that doesnt meant it wont provide over 372w that just means its not guaranteed to provide 80% PF efficiency.

I know, but I'm talking about the power on the 12V Rails, which is where the HD 5850 is going to be connected to, and I read on another sight (Not TH), that you need at;eats 35A(n the 12V) for the HD 5850 to run properly, also, I think you may have posted the wrong link, thats just to the PSU specs page, unless thats what you meant to post.
 
from what I can see all the reviews for the card say that the TDP of the card at load is 151w which means 12.58A. The systems they test the card with are running i7 965's in most cases and the total system power draw is 305W (25.417A)... so I think you'll be ok. Granted Id go with a corsair (single 12v rail and usually more reliable brand) but that's just me. This psu will work for you as long as you only wanna use 1 card and not go crossfire.
