CounterStrike???

Well... it's semi-realistic, somewhat dated graphics (uses the Half-Life engine), tough, there are a lot of cheaters (although more servers are trying to protect against it) and yet still a lot of fun. It's not the normal frag-fest since you have to wait out the remainder of the round if you get killed but still mostly action-oriented (not overly tactical).

If you have Half-Life, just download the mod (www.counter-strike.net) for free. If you don't have Half-Life, you should really buy it too. Don't pay too much for the both as they are 3-4 yr old games.

There is a learning curve so remember a couple things: 1) patience is a virtue, rushing will get you killed 9/10 and NEVER leave your wingman; 2) make sure you understand how to buy weapons BEFORE you start the game and write it down (i.e. RTFM); 3) killing your own teammates sucks the life out of the game and makes you look like a child and/or get permanently banned from servers; 4) cheaters are overcompensating for their micropenises and are to be treated with the utmost severity.

It is definitely worth a shot though.

Those dated graphics beats a lot of stuff out today, especially with the high definition upgrades Valve put into Half Life with expansions and 1.1.

This game pissed me off. How is it possible that you can shoot someone in the face but they don't die? Apparently the kevlar saves them.

Its not 100% realistic. If you want that play Rainbow Six or Rogue Spear. How much fun would it be to keep catching a stray bullet in the face and going down in a 20 player game?

Well im definetly gonna give it a shot, My friend has a copy of both, Do i need my own Serial or can i just Take his???

Thanks/Rob

Need your own CD key otherwise he'll get locked out if you try to play at the same time. If you don't have it, you should get Half-Life anyhow then just dnld the mod for free.

Um, usually, if two people are using the same key, it's not a problem. Sometimes we even got 3 at the same time (and on the same server mind you), but that's rare.

But yeah, counterstrike is a great game. I've found though that in order to get good, you have to play it a lot, and once you stop playing, you get bad real quick

I don't know how copyright laws work where you live, but here in Canada you can't return open software. Some stores may take it back, but they aren't supposed to.

<font color=red> If you design software that is fool-proof, only a fool will want to use it. </font color=red>

Just get the regular half life. It's not that much ($35-40 cdn). Don't get blue shift, or game of the year edition, or the multi pack or whatever.

And no, you can't open it, get the key, and then return it. That's like going to the store, buying all of the CD's you want, copying them, and then returning them...

In the U.S. they have warehouse chains that will let you return anything. Buy a computer and return it 3 years later.

Costco anyone?

DH, Are you kidding me...Can you tell me where i can order this... I think in Circuit city, and bestbuy you can return, but no cash back, you get Store Credit..Im looking to buy an Optical Mouse Soon...Looks like i'll get two things for the price of ONE....

I bought Half Life at Costco years ago. Counterstrike you can download off the web.

I would never ever ever ever buy software from Bestbuy or Circuit city unless you're positive you want the game AND it's on sale. They will not let you return it period! No store credit, no nothing! And they'll have fun telling you that when you come back with it.

Nobody says you should return everything you buy and be a complete pirate, but I do like the option of returning software if it sucks.

I checked Costco's website, and they don't sell many games on there, and I haven't seen Half Life at costco for a while (I don't think at least), but here are the locations in NJ

Brick
Bridgewater
Clifton
East Hanover
Edison
Hackensack
Hazlet
Union
Wayne
Wharton

OK, well I live in NJ, and there's SAM CLUB, it's the same as costco, But i know where there's a Costco in Staten Island, NY.... Anyway...Costco lets you buy stuff and return it

Rob,

Sams club will work too. I think if you have one or the other membership, you can go to both. Never quite understood that though. Here we have both within a mile of each other.

Just as they are supposed to. It's not a matter of store policy, it's a matter of law. ANY store that accepts returns of opened software (for refund or sotre credit) is violating copyright laws. If the box is still sealed, however, that is perfectly fine.

<font color=red> If you design software that is fool-proof, only a fool will want to use it. </font color=red>

It's illegal to copy software, but if you return the software under the premise that you didn't copy it, is it still illegal?

<font color=red>God</font color=red> <font color=blue>Bless</font color=blue> <font color=red>America!</font color=red>

It's illegal for the store to take back opened copies of any software. It doesn't matter what premise you take it back under. If you have a broken/missing disc, you are supposed to contact the software company to replace it, not try to return it. Same goes for any other missing/damaged contents in the box.

I guess I'm asking since years ago I had to feed that line to customers when I worked at one of the "big" retailers, but I do know that at Costco the reason they'll return anything is because 70% of their profit comes from membership. The remaining 30% is from sold product and that's no big deal.

I'm just surprised that they would really be breaking the law. I'm wondering if maybe the law isn't that tight. Back in the day I would buy a game, try it out, and if I didn't like it I would return it (before CD burners). I suppose the law could have been passed after that, but maybe not....
