CPU advice please ?

I was in another thread asking whether I should upgrade my video card with my current setup, the general consensus was that I should wait till the new Pascal cards come out since I wouldn't see much of a difference from just a video card swap. So with that I felt I could take that advice and wait it out , but in the mean time look at other parts and see if there are any good deals going around. So my question is , what do you guys suggest as a good semi future proof CPU/MOBO combo for gaming to go along with those cards. I am also trying to stay away from amd and switch over to intel. I wouldn't bother asking, but I always tend to be alittle unsure of the difference between the different i5's, i7's and mobo's. Any help would be great thanks.

It takes a lot to say the word "Future proof", because with the new architecture designs from new manufacturers and DirectX12 coming soon, we can't define "Future proof" just yet.

Well if you want something that will last you a long time, you'd be looking at getting an i7 6700 and a cheap motherboard if you don't want to spend much, but if you wanna go overboard, you could grab an i7 6700K and a Z170 motherboard, and overclock it once you feel the need to again.

The FX isn't all that bad, if you want to keep it for a while more you could get a good cooler if you don't have one already, maybe disable 4 of the cores and overclock it to 4.5 or 4.8Ghz, the single threaded performance should go up a lot and could potentially wield you that performance you're after just for the time being.

You also have the X99 Platform but those are really expensive, you'd be looking at 400$ at least for a basic setup if not more, but you'd get 6 Cores and 12 Threads at the bottom of the barrel platform which should be a nice, long term investment.

But to be completely honest with you, as there are new Pascal series cards coming out, you should wait on the CPU upgrade as well and pick up a ZEN if they're any good (AMD usually has more cores which DX12 is rumoured to love) and they should have pretty equivalent Intel single threaded performance, this from rumors of course, so I'd wait if I was you.

They sound like great options , thanks and yea atm I have a corsair h100i. I plan on waiting , reason I came here is I just don't want to waste a bunch of money lol I am sure you can all understand . But yes currently I am waiting on the pascal, and ill take your cpu advice as well.
